ConocoPhillips, a publicly-traded American multinational energy corporation, has expressed its approval of the Department of the Interior's Record of Decision on the Willow project.
The company welcomes the adoption of the three core pads in the Bureau of Land Management's preferred Alternative E. As a result, ConocoPhillips Alaska has completed its extensive preparations with key contractors and is set to begin gravel road construction activities. The company is currently reviewing the ROD and plans to advance its internal approval processes towards a Final Investment Decision.

The company expects to begin gravel road construction activities after completing extensive preparations with key contractors. The CEO, Ryan Lance, believes that the Willow project fits within the Biden Administration's priorities on environmental and social justice, energy transition, and energy security. The project is expected to create union jobs and provide benefits to Alaska Native communities. Furthermore, after nearly five years of regulatory and environmental review, the National Environmental Policy Act process is complete, and Willow is designed to support and coexist with subsistence activities, with many mitigation measures built into the project design.

The Willow project by ConocoPhillips in Alaska has received a Record of Decision from the Department of the Interior, adopting the three core pads as per the Bureau of Land Management's preferred Alternative E. The company plans to initiate gravel road construction activities immediately.
ConocoPhillips chairman and CEO Ryan Lance welcomed the decision, stating that the project will coexist with subsistence activities and adhere to the highest environmental standards while creating good union jobs and benefiting Alaska Native communities.
The project, located in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, is expected to produce 180,000 barrels of oil per day at its peak, decreasing American dependence on foreign energy supplies. It is projected to deliver between $8 billion to $17 billion in new revenue for the federal government, the state of Alaska, and North Slope Borough communities.
The project will be built using materials primarily made and sourced in the U.S. and has the potential to create over 2,500 construction jobs and approximately 300 long-term jobs.
